On November 15th and 16th, 2022, we conducted the “Scientific Writing” workshop in collaboration with the Graduate Academy of Leibniz University Hannover. Over two intensive days, we gathered online to explore and delve into the fundamental principles of scientific writing together.
Led by Dr. Carsten Rohr, the workshop addressed many of the issues that PhD students in the program face such as: separating writing from editing, structuring writing tasks so as to avoid rework, developing an understanding of the standard norms of scientific writing and publishing, avoiding some common pitfalls which cause scientific writing to obscure rather than clarify.
The workshop used both input from the experience of Dr. Rohr as well as hands on work on research papers that participants were actually working on to both illuminate and internalize these principles.
Participants found the workshop very useful and pertinent and walked away to tools and techniques that they could immediately apply to their scientific writing practice.
