Mastering Academic Workflows Course

Our PhD candidates delved into optimizing their academic workflows during the workshop “Mastering Academic Workflows: The Power of Systems Thinking,” held on February 26th and 27th. These sessions equipped participants with invaluable insights and strategies to enhance productivity and efficiency in their academic endeavors.

Led by Maia George, the workshop focused on organizing academic workflows – which can be seen as messy, reactive and unstructured – more systematically, using tools from the field of systems thinking. Using these tools participants learned how to define their academic processes, identify stages and dependencies and how to come up with better plans using this structure.

Participants applied these tools to the processes that they had developed over the many months of their PhD so far and found opportunities for optimization. They left the workshop with pragmatic tools for everyday use and a better understand of which parts of their process needed more work.
