The PhD Training Network “LernMINT” offers

15 PhD scholarships 

starting from May 2020 (earliest) for a period of three years. The PhD Training Network “LernMINT: Data-assisted classroom teaching in STEM (MINT) subjects” is funded by the Ministry of Science and Culture, Lower Saxony, within the funding line of the Lower Saxony PhD Program (“Nds. Promotionsprogramm, funding phase 2019-2024). LernMINT is coordinated by the Leibniz Universität Hannover, the University of Applied Sciences Hannover, Ostfalia University of Applied Sciences Braunschweig/Wolfenbüttel, and TIB – Leibniz Information Centre for Science and Technology.

Tasks

The PhD Training Network LernMINT provides interdisciplinary training for the doctoral candidates in order to qualify them as experts in a sub-area of digital education, namely data-assisted learning and teaching in STEM (in German: MINT) subjects. The doctoral projects are divided into five subject areas: (1) Learning analytics methods for STEM teaching, (2) Data-based support of learning potential, (3) Informal learning in schools and universities, (4) Transition from school to university, (5) Data protection and fairness of learning analytics methods.

Conditions of employment

• Either a successfully completed university degree in computer science, mathematics, or related subjects (diploma/master);

or a successfully completed university degree for secondary teacher accreditation in biology, chemistry, computer science, mathematics, or physics;

or a successfully completed university degree in one of the natural sciences or engineering subjects.

• Interest in scientific work and publishing
• Excellent communication skills
• Interest in interdisciplinary research
• Good to very good knowledge of German
• Good to very good knowledge of English
